San Juan mini tour

Hey howdy hey.

We ventured to the San Juans this last week for a little mini tour with the Berg family, our friend Sam, Nikki and Mark (for a night), and a Charlie. We're headed there again next weekend, with six Bellingham friends. It was a good little warmup. 65 miles spread over four days. Pretty relaxed.
Nice line-up. Seven bikes in a row on the ferry to Lopez Island.

Great sunset on our second night, on San Juan Island.

But then it poured. We took refuge in a picnic shelter for approximately 6 hours, while our tent filled with water due to a holy rainfly. Well, not really filled. Just puddleified.

We went out kayaking as soon as the rain let up (thanks, Bergs!). Saw some orcas. Erin nearly gave herself a heart attack. They were close, but not too close, though one surfaced about twenty feet from Dana and Bart. Pretty crazy.

The ride back to the ferry for Anacortes was very wet, but our matching rain jackets kept us dry and stylish.

On the list for procurement before our tour next week:
  1. Tent with heretical rainfly (that's unholy).
  2. Raincovers for the front panniers.
We figure that, if we get these things, we'll have wonderful weather and if we don't...well...

Less than five hours to Harry Potter!
